The OptaJoke Betting Blog – Week 7

Firstly, congratulations to all those on the 6/1 enhanced price on Arsenal to beat Barcelona on Wednesday, it was a great result for the punter and several of you have been in touch via Twitter to say you got in on the action! This weekend see’s a mix of action from across the English Leagues and FA Cup and there are some very interesting games in store. As per usual here on OptaJoke we will be trying to get some decent odds from small stakes to brighten up your Saturday afternoon. Last week’s treble came oh so close but Aston Villa couldn’t edge past Blackpool and bring the 10/1 shot home.

First up this weekend is a home treble consisting of three promotion chasing teams:

Swansea v Doncaster Rovers (Home win) – The Swans have continued the form that saw them in and around the play-off picture last season and currently sit 5th in The Championship. Once again their home form has been the backbone of their solid performances with 9 wins and 3 draws from their 15 games at The Liberty Stadium. You have to go back to 26th November since they last were beaten on their home patch. They take on a Rovers side woefully out of form, they’ve lost 6 of their last 7 games including a 6-0 thrashing midweek at Ipswich. The last time they won away was at Porstmouth in November and they are yet to beat a team in the bottom half of the league away. Home win looks a good option here to kick things off.

Peterborough v Tranmere
(Home win) – London Road has seen the most goals out of any ground in the football league this season and by a long way! Peterborough are a little unpredictable at times but on the whole their home results are good (10 wins, 2 draws) and with Tranmere sitting 15th in the league Darren Fergusons side will fancy their chances of cementing a play-off spot. The visitors have failed to score on 38% of their away ties this season and that spells trouble where Peterborough are concerned, they have scored a whopping 64 goals and I can see the home side coming away with the spoils.

Wycombe v Accrington (Home win) – Wycombe are currently 4th in League Two and need to step up after losing their last 2 games. With 2nd place Shrewsbury taking on 3rd place Rotherham this weekend Wycombe could do with 3 points in an attempt to leapfrog one of their promotion rivals. They host Accrington who haven’t won in 4 league games and are drifting dangerously down the table towards the relegation zone. To add to their worries they have only won 2 games away all season and even with some indifferent recent form Wycombe should have enough about them to see off their struggling opponents.

This one returns around 4/1 with most firms and is the safer option this weekend. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous then we’ve got this for you…

Goals Galore (Betfred)

6 games (both teams to score) – 33/1

Reading v Watford
Bristol Rovers v Oldham
Charlton v Exeter
Hartlepool v MK Dons
Gillingham v Bury
Northampton v Aldershot

As always, good luck and gamble responsibly!
