Short but sweet post on the OptaJoke betting blog this week as it’s an International week and for me, the betting opportunities are few and far between.
England take on Wales in The Millennium Stadium on Saturday afternoon and many of the bookies are predicting an easy run for Fabio Capello’s side. They are as short as 2/5 with most firms and it doesn’t take a genius to work out there’s very little value in betting on such short odds. The draw is around 15/4 with Victor Chandler and Stan James and if you fancy an underdog victory Wales are as long as 7/1 with Paddy Power.
Gareth Bale would have been an interesting bet for an anytime goalscorer but he has been confirmed as missing the game by members of the Welsh camp this week. The usual suspects from the English contingent are at pretty skinny odds with Wayne Rooney at around evens (2.0) and Crouch, Carroll and Bent all around 11/10 to get on the scoresheet. One player who is at a decent price is the returning captain John Terry. He may have a point to prove with all the media attention surrounding him over the last week or so since Capello’s announcement to reinstate him. The Chelsea man is always dangerous from set pieces and he is a generous 6/1 with William Hill and Sporting Bet to get his name on the scoresheet to mark his return to leading the side.
Wales without Bale are a less threatening proposition, of that there isn’t a doubt in my mind but they do have some very talented players. Craig Bellamy is a proven goalscorer both in the Premiership and other divisions in England. The Manchester City loanee is a best priced 7/2 with Bet365 and that’s not a bad price for a player who has scored against some of the best defenders around in his time.
England v Wales selections
John Terry to score anytime @ 6/1
Craig Bellamy to score anytime @ 7/2
The week wouldn’t be complete without a multiple and it’s a quadruple this week:
Wales v England (away win)
Cyprus v Iceland (home win)
USA v Argentina (away win)
Scotland v Brazil (Neutral Ground – Brazil win)
This one returns 13/2 with most firms if you fancy taking a punt.
As always, good luck and gamble responsibly!
